SINGAPORE — Starting December 27, 2025, adult card fares on Singapore’s public buses and trains will increase by 9 to 10 Singapore cents per trip, following a fare adjustment of 5 %.
Here’s what commuters need to know:
📈 Key Changes
- Card fares for adults: + 9 to 10 cents per ride.
- Concession fares (for journeys > 3.2 km): Increase by 3 to 4 cents.
- Cash fares: Will also rise — +5 cents for students, +10 cents for seniors/persons with disabilities, and +20 cents for adults/other commuters.
- Express bus services: The fare difference over standard adult card fares will increase by 40 cents.
⚖️ Rationale & Moderation
- The 5 % fare increase is below what public transport operators had requested, as the government will subsidize the remainder to ease commuter burden.
- To better align fare revisions with actual cost pressures, the Public Transport Council (PTC) will shift its review period from “Jan–Dec” to “July–June.”
🧰 What Commuters Should Do / Possible Mitigations
- Monthly passes: Prices for adult and senior monthly passes will be lowered (by about S$6 and S$3 respectively) to provide relief for frequent users.
- Public transport vouchers: Eligible households will receive S$60 in vouchers to offset the hike.
- Considerations: Those who rely heavily on public transport should run the numbers: the higher per-ride fare may be offset by cheaper monthly pass options.
